There’s been a lot of chatter lately about social media aggregators such as FriendFeed and SocialThing. These sites hold the promise of centralizing information from disparate sites like Facebook, Twitter, flickr and the like, but personally I feel there are few things lacking in these sites. Loic Le Meur posted a blog post that received a lot of reaction outlining how he would like to use his blog as the central place to display information from all these services.
A little while back, I updated my personal page on jaymoonah.com using “badges” from the various social sites that I use the most, and I feel they give a pretty good picture of the “web version” of me (apologies to Chris Brogan.)
This is okay, but it has a couple of problems. One is that it’s dependent on the different services having badges that I would want to use, and me having the ability to integrate them into a page, in my case using Dreamweaver as well as a bit of old-school HTML coding to create the layout.
The second, and to me the bigger problem that this approach or using aggregators such as FriendFeed has, it that while it allows the viewing of content, it doesn’t include any of the communication or content creation capabilities of the different social sites.
What about an aggregator of all the different social network services that could be customized to be included in my site, that would also allow me to post to Twitter, and to read my friends Tweets, and to send Facebook messages and pokes, and upload photos to flickr, and create messages on Utterz, and do whatever I wanted to do without ever leaving my own site?

I just stopped by your blog and thought I would say hello. I like your site design. Looking forward to reading more down the road.

i think there is some of integrating the everything on flock web browser… just downloading the same!!
Moksh, yeah I played with Flock a bit when it came out but I found it clunky… maybe I’ll take another shot with it.
I was just thinking the same thing today! I have tried Flock, also find it a bit klunky, but on the right track.
What would be great, I think, is if Google Reader would do some further integration of my services. For instance, the other day I subscribed to Environment Canada’s Weather and unsubscribed right away because it inundated me with posts. Would be nice if I could subscribe to their widget instead, but was available through my home page (currently Google Reader).
